Does RaceTrac hire people with felonies?
No published policy
Unclear.
RaceTrac hasn't published a policy on hiring people with criminal records.
RaceTrac's careers site, hiring process page and FAQ, and the six postings we opened give no fair-chance wording or description of how records are weighed. RaceTrac is not in the coalition's member logos or the three 2016 White House Fair Chance Business Pledge fact sheets we searched.

What RaceTrac has said
RaceTrac hasn't published a policy on hiring people with criminal records or drug tests that we could find, and it is not on the Second Chance Business Coalition member list. Its hiring process page lays out five steps (apply, review, phone screen, interview, job offer), and its hiring FAQ says most team members start within a week of their background check being completed, without saying what the check covers. The six store postings we opened say nothing about records or screening. RaceTrac's careers site mentions delivery drivers at its Energy Dispatch fuel delivery business, but we found no current driver posting to read.
We didn't find a public statement from RaceTrac about hiring people with records: not on its careers site, in its reports, or in its announcements. That doesn't mean it won't hire you. It means there's nothing on the record to point to.
Does RaceTrac do background checks?
RaceTrac runs background checks. The FAQ on RaceTrac's hiring process page says that most team members begin work within a week of their background check being completed, and another answer says RaceTrac will never ask candidates to pay for background checks. RaceTrac doesn't say what the check covers, who runs it, how far back it looks, or exactly when it happens; the page lists the steps as apply, review, phone screen, interview and job offer. None of the six postings we opened (store associates and co-managers in Louisiana, Texas and Florida) mentions a check, and RaceTrac's privacy policy (last updated June 24, 2025) had no wording about job applicants when we searched its text.1,2,3,4,5,6
Does RaceTrac drug test?
RaceTrac hasn't published a drug testing policy. RaceTrac hasn't published a drug testing policy on the careers pages or in the six postings we opened. Its drivers page, which describes fuel delivery driving, does not mention testing; CDL drivers would also fall under federal FMCSA testing rules, which we did not research for this employer because we found no driver posting.2,5,7
Your rights, and how far back a check can go
- Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), an employer must get your written permission before it gets a background report about you from a background screening company.16,17,18
- Before an employer decides not to hire, keep, or promote you because of something in a background report, it must give you a copy of the report and a document called "A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act."16,17
- You have the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in your background report directly with the company that made it.16,19
- The FCRA's seven-year limit does not apply to criminal convictions, so under federal law a conviction can show up on a background report no matter how old it is.20,21
- Under the FCRA, background and credit reports generally cannot include arrest records, civil lawsuits, or civil judgments that are more than seven years old (or older than the statute of limitations, if that is longer).20,22
Before you apply
- You can ask a background screening company for the information it has on you, and the CFPB keeps a list of consumer reporting companies, including employment screening companies, with their contact details.16,19,23
- According to the Clean Slate Initiative, 14 states and Washington, D.C. have passed Clean Slate laws that meet its criteria for automatically clearing eligible records: Pennsylvania, Utah, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Delaware, Virginia, California, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, Illinois, and Missouri, plus D.C.24
- The Federal Bonding Program, run by the U.S. Department of Labor, lets states give employers free fidelity bonds that protect them against losses from a newly hired worker's dishonest acts, for job seekers with past justice involvement or in recovery from substance use.25,26
