What Gopuff has said
Gopuff hasn't published a policy or statement on hiring people with criminal records, and it isn't on the Second Chance Business Coalition member list. Of the roughly 780 postings on its careers site, one (a box truck driver in Cherry Hill, NJ) says applicants must pass a motor vehicle record review, background check and drug screen; the rest say nothing about either. No posting we read has arrest, conviction or fair-chance wording, including postings in California and New York. Independent delivery partners sign up on a separate page that lists age, license, vehicle and phone requirements and says nothing about background checks.
We didn't find a public statement from Gopuff about hiring people with records: not on its careers site, in its reports, or in its announcements. That doesn't mean it won't hire you. It means there's nothing on the record to point to.
Does Gopuff do background checks?
Gopuff runs background checks for some roles. One posting on Gopuff's careers site, Box Truck Driver (Non-CDL) in Cherry Hill, NJ, says applicants must pass an MVR (motor vehicle record) review, background check and drug screen. We found no such wording in the other postings we read, and no Gopuff page saying which jobs are checked, when, what a check covers or which vendor runs it. The posting doesn't say the background check covers criminal history.1
Does Gopuff drug test?
Gopuff drug tests for some roles. Only the Cherry Hill, NJ box truck driver posting mentions a drug screen. Gopuff hasn't published a company-wide drug testing policy that we found, and the fulfillment center, retail store and corporate postings we read don't mention one.1
Rules for specific jobs
- Box truck and delivery drivers employed by Gopuff
One posting (Box Truck Driver (Non-CDL), Cherry Hill, NJ) says applicants must pass an MVR review, background check and drug screen. It was the only driver posting on Gopuff's careers site on Oct. 31, 2026; the fulfillment center, store and corporate postings don't mention a background check or drug screen.1
- Independent delivery partners (drivers who sign up through Gopuff's delivery partner page)
Gopuff's delivery partner sign-up page lists U.S. requirements of age 21 or older, a valid driver's license, an insured vehicle in your name and a current smartphone. The page doesn't mention background checks, and we didn't open a Gopuff page describing how delivery partners are screened.2
Your rights, and how far back a check can go
- Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), an employer must get your written permission before it gets a background report about you from a background screening company.8,9,10
- Before an employer decides not to hire, keep, or promote you because of something in a background report, it must give you a copy of the report and a document called "A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act."8,9
- You have the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in your background report directly with the company that made it.8,11
- The FCRA's seven-year limit does not apply to criminal convictions, so under federal law a conviction can show up on a background report no matter how old it is.12,13
- Under the FCRA, background and credit reports generally cannot include arrest records, civil lawsuits, or civil judgments that are more than seven years old (or older than the statute of limitations, if that is longer).12,14
Before you apply
- You can ask a background screening company for the information it has on you, and the CFPB keeps a list of consumer reporting companies, including employment screening companies, with their contact details.8,11,15
- According to the Clean Slate Initiative, 14 states and Washington, D.C. have passed Clean Slate laws that meet its criteria for automatically clearing eligible records: Pennsylvania, Utah, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Delaware, Virginia, California, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, Illinois, and Missouri, plus D.C.16
- The Federal Bonding Program, run by the U.S. Department of Labor, lets states give employers free fidelity bonds that protect them against losses from a newly hired worker's dishonest acts, for job seekers with past justice involvement or in recovery from substance use.17,18
