Does ABM Industries hire people with felonies?

No published policy

Unclear.

ABM Industries hasn't published a policy on hiring people with criminal records.

We found no ABM statement, program or coalition membership about hiring people with records, and none of its roughly 2,160 current U.S. postings has arrest, conviction or fair-chance wording, including postings in Los Angeles and other places with local fair-chance laws.

What ABM Industries has said

ABM hasn't published a policy or statement on hiring people with criminal records, and it isn't on the Second Chance Business Coalition member list. Its employee privacy notice, which also covers job applicants, says it may run a criminal record check during recruitment for roles where the law allows one. Most of its U.S. job postings don't mention a background check, but about 40 of roughly 2,160 do, mostly for drivers, parking and airport roles and supervisors; a few of those say criminal background check and drug test.

We didn't find a public statement from ABM Industries about hiring people with records: not on its careers site, in its reports, or in its announcements. That doesn't mean it won't hire you. It means there's nothing on the record to point to.

Does ABM Industries do background checks?

ABM Industries runs background checks for some roles. ABM's employee privacy notice (reviewed Dec. 11, 2025) says it may collect criminal conviction information where the law allows, for example a criminal record check during recruitment or where ongoing screening applies to a role that allows one. Some postings say the applicant must pass a background check; for example, a Tampa shuttle driver posting says all applicants must pass a criminal background check, drug test and DOT physical prior to employment, and a Los Angeles parking attendant posting says a background check, motor vehicle record check and drug test. A shift lead posting in Kilgore, TX says only 'any required background screening.' ABM doesn't say when checks happen, name a vendor or give a lookback period.1,2,3,4

Does ABM Industries drug test?

ABM Industries drug tests for some roles. About 27 of roughly 2,160 U.S. postings mention a drug test or drug screen, among them driver, parking, airport, supervisor and technician roles. Frontline cleaning postings we opened (for example a Warehouse Janitorial Cleaner in San Bernardino, CA) don't mention one, and ABM hasn't published a company-wide pre-employment policy. Commercial drivers also fall under federal rules (see role notes).2,5

Rules for specific jobs

  • Shuttle, passenger and airport roles

The airport shuttle driver posting in Tampa, FL says applicants must pass the Homeland Security background check needed for authorization to work in the airport's secured area, and all applicants must pass a criminal background check, drug test and DOT physical. Other airport postings (Chicago, Dulles) use similar secured-area badge and background check wording.2

  • Commercial drivers in DOT-regulated jobs (federal rule)

(federal rule) A negative pre-employment drug test is required before a CDL driver first performs safety-sensitive work for an employer.6

  • Parking attendants and valets

One posting (Parking Attendant, Los Angeles, CA) requires age 21, a valid license and passing a background check, motor vehicle record check and drug test.3

  • Janitorial and cleaning jobs

The cleaning postings we opened say little about screening. One (Warehouse Janitorial Cleaner, San Bernardino, CA) doesn't mention a background check or drug test; another (Shift Lead, Kilgore, TX) says candidates must successfully complete any required background screening.5

  • Jobs with ABM-owned brands (Able Services, Quality Uptime Services, RavenVolt, WGNSTAR)

ABM's careers page links to separate job sites for these. We didn't review them, so nothing here covers their hiring.7

Your rights, and how far back a check can go

  • Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), an employer must get your written permission before it gets a background report about you from a background screening company.11,12,13
  • Before an employer decides not to hire, keep, or promote you because of something in a background report, it must give you a copy of the report and a document called "A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act."11,12
  • You have the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in your background report directly with the company that made it.11,14
  • The FCRA's seven-year limit does not apply to criminal convictions, so under federal law a conviction can show up on a background report no matter how old it is.15,16
  • Under the FCRA, background and credit reports generally cannot include arrest records, civil lawsuits, or civil judgments that are more than seven years old (or older than the statute of limitations, if that is longer).15,17

Your full background check rights

Before you apply

  • You can ask a background screening company for the information it has on you, and the CFPB keeps a list of consumer reporting companies, including employment screening companies, with their contact details.11,14,18
  • According to the Clean Slate Initiative, 14 states and Washington, D.C. have passed Clean Slate laws that meet its criteria for automatically clearing eligible records: Pennsylvania, Utah, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Delaware, Virginia, California, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, Illinois, and Missouri, plus D.C.19
  • The Federal Bonding Program, run by the U.S. Department of Labor, lets states give employers free fidelity bonds that protect them against losses from a newly hired worker's dishonest acts, for job seekers with past justice involvement or in recovery from substance use.20,21
